SACRAMENTO, Jun 13, 2003 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Milk is often touted as the "must-have" food for women and children but little is said to men about the important role dairy plays in their health.
The Dairy Council of California says recent studies have linked the consumption of dairy foods by men with decreased risk for three key diseases that are common male diseases: colon cancer, hypertension and osteoporosis.
In 2003, 72,800 new cases of colon and rectal cancers will be diagnosed in men. The American Cancer Society estimates that over 28,000 men will die this year from these cancers.
One in four adults has high blood pressure and up to age 55, a greater percentage of men than women have the condition. Two million men develop osteoporosis.
According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, at least 12 million more are at risk for developing the disease.
By including two to three servings of milk and dairy a day, men experience a wide range of benefits.
